The palace was originally built in 1865 for the Queen's favorite handmaiden and was later refurbished as a royal guest house and a hunting lodge and became home to the Jaipur royal family to the year 1957, when maharajah Sawai Man Singh II converted the royal palace into a hotel. Today under the internationally acclaimed Taj group of hotels the palace has become known as the 'Taj Rambagh Palace'. The Royal Hotel stands proudly at the Bhawanai Singh Road in Jaipur, approximately 11 km from the airport and 4 km from the railway station. This magnificent hotel lies over 47 acres of tranquil landscaped gardens, it is closely located to the walled 'Pink City', spectacular forts and the shopping bazaars of Jaipur. The hotel is the fine blend of Rajput and Mughal architecture.

The palace offers 79 rooms including aesthetically restored suites which were the former chambers of the maharajah. The rooms have been categorized into luxury rooms, superior rooms, Royal suite and grand Royal suites. All of the rooms are totally unique. The grand presidential suites present high ceilings and exquisite chandeliers complement the green Udaipur stone arches and rich antique furniture. Arched French windows open out onto the resplendent Mughal gardens, the princely Nahargarth Fort and the breathtaking Arravalli hills. The Sukh Nivas suite presents a fusion of contemporary design with royal flourishes. Arched stone work, rich textured drapes and fabrics, crystal chandeliers, gold leaf frescoes, opulent furniture and embellishments creates an atmosphere of extreme luxury and decadence. Large windows open onto the Royal gardens and the spectacular Arravalli Hills. This magnificent suite has its own grand sitting area, intimate dining space, sun deck seating on the private terrace. The Master bedroom houses an ornate and unusual circular bed draped with full length gold hued curtains from floor to ceiling.
